Engr Tadashi Sasaki’s Visit

It’s his third time in 2006. Tadashi Sasaki visited again Puntian Academy(PA) last December 31, 2006. Maam Banjing Quejada prepared a simple yet heartwarming program. Mr. Balvez gave the welcome talk and acknowledges Tadashi’s goodwill. On the other hand, Fr Dodge inspired the group with his Christmas message. He cited Tadashi’s valuable efforts to PA and the community.Tadashi gave a response thru updating the students of his new work with the Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited and explained the scientific reprocessing of nuclear energy source. He further challenge the students to develop more their learn attitude.

Maam Banjing motivated the students to take advantage on the opportunities extended by PA and Tadashi to their future.

Despite the small number of students present, Tadashi filled the occasion with joy thru the Japanese song and having danced with the students.

The program ended with Maam Mating Meomeo extending gratitude to Tadashi and those present who graced it.

The newsletter (which means shinbun in Nihongo) was inspired by the dynamic-prophetic and generous-partnership of Tadashi Sasaki and Fr Dodge Tabios. It features Puntian Academy activities, views and opinions of its students, teachers, parents and incorporators. It will share relevant information on the Happy Flight International System’s (HFIS) plans and efforts towards promoting students’ welfare. Starting January 2007, it shall print a bimonthly shimbun.

Puntian Academy Unleashed Their Talents
A CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT IN QUEZON

Despite its limited preparations, Puntian Academy students and the teachers, led by Mr Nelson Balvez, Ms Banjing Quejada and Mr. Bernie Gabon, amused the Quezon constituents last December 15, 2006 of their fantastic and entertaining presentation.

The program was organized by the Quezon municipal government to contribute Christmas spirit with its populace. Different institutions in the locality were invited to share a nightly program with the people. PA performance was very much appreciated and got the talk-of-town. Is there anything significant in Puntian Academy’s learning? Watch for it, deep-water flows silently in rivers!!!

Here's one of the video presented on that special night. Click here.

720 Hrs OJT For The Graduating Students

Thirty four (34) pioneering students of PA were assigned to different offices to complete their requirement of Computer Programming course starting last November 16, 2006.

Mr. Bernie Gabon, the computer instructor negotiated for the students’ on-the-job-training (OJT). The Quezon municipal office, Valencia city office, Skynet, National Irrigation Administration (NIA), PAHRD, San Agustin Parish and the library of PA were among those who accepted them. The students will complete their 720 hours required of their course based on TESDA guidelines to ensure the applicability of their skills.

Maam Quejada and Sir Gabon took turns on monitoring of their activities. The students had the opportunity to experience working in different offices and learn to deal with various employees as they enter the world of work.

It was a timely training because others got Christmas gifts as gratitude to their job. We hope it was all well done. No chatting and texting while working please.

Going international: A credit to Puntian Academy

A rare opportunity for excellent learning, to develop professional leadership and enhance commitment to social justice was gained by Fr Dodge Tabios, PA’s director.

He was chosen as Fellow-Elect to the International Fellowship Program (IFP) of the Ford Foundation based New York. He is privileged to study and had opted for Europe to pursue his scholarship in the next 3 years.

Recently, he finished a 9-week pre-academic training in Manila last October 3 to December 12, 2006. They were 37 young and socially committed Filipinos from the rural areas desiring to contribute rural development in the country.

The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) a partner of Ford Foundation facilitated the program. They stayed at the University of the Philippines Hotel, in Diliman, Q.C. and took courses with the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), the Philippine Social Science Center (PSSC) and the Statistics Research and Training Center of the National Statistics Office (NSO).

It was an intensive study but mind you it will be an added value for PA.

Fr Dodge’s experiences with PA were truly a contributory factor in being elected!! A great blessing!!!

Puntian Academy ACCREDITED BY TESDA

It was a successful defends by the Puntian Academy (PA) with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) regional office for its accreditation. A highly technical presentation was prepared by Mr. Bernard Gabon to prove the PA’s desire of fulfilling its objective as a service-provider to the students.

August 18, 2006 was an important date for PA. TESDA Provincial Directress Marjorie Nilo was instrumental of the accreditation. She helped in the recommendation of PA’s papers after their inspection with the school last June 2006.

This assured the parents and the students of employment after finishing a course either in two-year computer programming or one-year PC operation skills.

The efforts boosted PA capability to contribute to the students’ quest for work amidst poverty. It further increased PA’s commitment and advocacy for quality education to poor students in the nearby villages.
